1. Achieving Results through the Organizational Experience (OX) Blue Zone

If you have done research, you know that it is a commonly held belief that a large majority of transformations efforts aren't successful. If you include sustainability, business readiness and collective ownership as indicators of success the results would be even more alarming.

In a world where change is happening constantly and it is getting faster and more complex, the implications of this lack of success is something to be very concerned about,

As I reflect on my career, I've played a part in some pretty amazing organizational transformations and achieved many great outcomes in different sectors and industries. If I'm honest though, I'd have to admit that in most cases the transformations took too long, cost too much or brought about difficult operational or leadership realities that the organization was left needing to resolve. In some cases, deeply imbedded practices or ways of working pushed against the future state and prevented the transformation from sticking.

This is what I call the OX Blue Zone. The operational, leadership and cultural norms that either enable or prevent transformation.

When transformation is successful, without fail, it is because the leaders and organization were ready, capable and willing to embark on the change. They may not fully understood the needs or the impacts, but they understand that standing still or ignoring the rationale for change is not an option. They partner closely with business areas and solicit the voice of those who will be holding the ball in the future state.

Sadly, this kind of leadership and transformation isn't common practice. Organizations still rely on a 'done to you or for you' approach more than a 'done with you' approach to transformation.

It is my goal to solve some of the common systemic challenges that exist when organizations go through change and I want to work together with organizations to prevent them from being ongoing challenges.

Operational practices & organizational systems don't align

What it looks like:

Organizational and operational systems and practices don't enable business transformation, they focus primarily on results and delivery management that does not prepare the organization for the future state.

The Organizational Experience (OX) Blue Zone between what you aspire to achieve and what you actually achieve. It is about ensuring you have leaders ready and your organization clear and ready for the degree of change they are about to embark on.

The OX Index helps you determine how ready you are and the extent to which your organizational norms, systems and practices are likely to hinder or enable success.

With increased understanding you are better able to ensure the organization is focussing on the true implications of the transformation. You will be able to do what is necessary to be certain that the change can be sustained and led by the leaders and teams that are left holding the accountability for operating effectively in the future state.

Leaders are Misaligned or Lack clarity and Commitment

What it looks like:

Leaders and teams are misaligned and not effectively working together to achieve results. They are siloed and focussed on their own needs instead of the requirements of transformation.

I've been leading business transformations for over 20 years (through the dot.com era, down-sizing, outsourcing, the GFC, global acquisitions and mergers, pandemics, social reforms, automation and now AI readiness and digital integrations).

Even so, I've never seen such complex change happening at such a rapid pace. If leaders aren't already reflecting on their requirements for transformation, they are being required to consider it now. I can assist in this process of scope, strategy, impact and alignment.

Transformational Leadership Capability Lacking

What it looks like:

The lack of Transformational Leadership capability in organizations means that work is getting done and leaders are leading but the organization is being adequately prepared for the future state.

A SOLUTION TO CONSIDER

I believe transformational leaders must create the conditions for success and it requires more than just delivery management, it requires the creation of an organizational experience (OX) that enables the achievement of sustainable and impactful results.  

Transformational leadership, or what I call Leading Brilliance, requires Intetion, Insight, Integrity, Influence and Impact.  We can work together to build these attributes more deeply into your already established leadership toolkit.  With these attributes you'll be better able to lead transformations successfully and have your teams fully engaged.

Change Capability and Practices are Immature or Inadequate

What is looks like:

Change management occurs too late in the process and change practices often focus more on communication and training rather than business readiness and organizational transformation.

A large majority of my career has been focussed on leading change in organizations. Over the many years and experiences I've established what I believe to be a playbook that fills in some of the gaps that often exist when leading transformation.

I have extensive experience designing and delivering enterprise-wide change programs in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. I have been leading transformations for over 20 years, making change happen in service led industries like banking, government, media, telecommunications and healthcare as well as asset-intensive organizations in the mining, oil and gas, utilities, logistics, transport and infrastructure sectors.    

I bring international and community oriented experience. I have led business transformation efforts in both urban and rural/remote locations in Canada, Australia, Africa and Asia with some of the largest and most respected organizations.

I can shift my approach to meet your organizational needs - I have supported transformations within large mature corporations and complex government organizations. I've helped bring entrepreneurial and innovative ideas of start-ups to life and been grounded enough to connect with the deep social interests of for-purpose organizations.
